Bovis Lend Lease Chosen to Project Manage $500m Landmark Tower for BT Office Trust
BT Funds Management Limited today confirmed that Bovis Lend Lease was to project manage the design and construction of a 31 level landmark office tower, designed by world renowned architects Foster and Partners, for the BT Office Trust.
The $500 million, 43,000m2 office tower, at 126 Philip Street, Sydney, is due for completion in mid late 2005. Construction is due to start in July 2002 subject to DA approval.
Mr Desmond Marks, CEO Bovis Lend Lease Asia Pacific said: We are delighted to have been selected to project manage Sydney’s first premium commercial development of the millennium.
The Bovis Lend Lease team, led by Tony Costantino, has been involved with the project since July this year when we were appointed to manage and take ultimate accountability for the design development for the submission to Council of the Stage 2 Development Application.
We believe that the attraction of appointing Bovis Lend Lease through the next phase has been our reputation for being able to work closely with world-leading architects to deliver complex and innovative projects within budget and on time, as we did with the Renzo Piano designed Aurora Place.
And perhaps more importantly, bring projects to fruition without sacrificing the architectural vision that is so much part of the eventual appeal of the development.
The key, we believe, stems from our unique integrated real estate business, such that we have been able to bring together all of the services and management skills necessary to provide a total solution to complex briefs.
This requires not only the skills to translate the architectural vision into the real world, often developing new techniques and employing new materials, but bringing an in-depth understanding of the local market and corporate culture, beyond all the usual real estate asset requirements, Mr Marks said.
Mr Marks said that Bovis Lend Lease will also be involved in the fitout for the anchor tenant, Deutsche Bank, which will benefit Deutsche in terms of a lower fitout cost, and BT Office Trust through earlier occupation.
This together with the NAB complex in Melbourne, and Lend Lease’s new headquarters in Sydney means that Bovis Lend Lease is now engaged on more than $1billion worth of commercial projects in Australia. This is a major fillip for the design and construction sector, said Mr Marks.
126 Phillip St is on the corner of Phillip and Hunter Streets, and will feature unrestricted views of the Botanical Gardens and Sydney Harbour.
It marks the first Australian creation from architects Foster and Partners. Other Foster and Partners landmark projects include the recently opened Hong Kong Airport, the new German Parliament in Berlin, Citibank’s new European Headquarters in London and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Building in Hong Kong. Leading local firm, Hassel are the collaborating architects.
Having worked with Foster and Partners in London, we are pleased to be working with them again here in Australia, said Mr Marks.media
